Our Exercise Physiologist’s (EP’s) work with you using prescribed exercises to improve current or chronic medical conditions, injuries, and disabilities.
Our team can prescribe a comprehensive course of exercises for fitness, rehabilitation, lifestyle, or behaviour modification which will help improve your strength and balance, prevent falls and improve not only your health and wellbeing, but also your independence with your daily activities. The exercise plan, combined with their training in behaviour change can help you to manage your health independently.
It’s important to understand the difference between an exercise physiologist and other exercise professionals, such as personal trainers. These differences include University qualifications and strict accreditation requirements. They are eligible to register with Medicare Australia, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs and SafeWork and are recognised by most private health insurers. EP’s have the ability to treat and work with all types of people, those who want to improve their health and well-being to those living with chronic disease such as diabetes and cardiorespiratory conditions. Plus they can prescribe specific exercises for chronic disease and injury in line with your goals.
The aim of exercise physiology intervention is to achieve optimal physical function, health, and wellness. EP’s focus on supporting people to:
- Recover from cancer treatments more quickly
- Improve the breathing of those with lung disease by up to 70%
- Reduce the number of fatal heart attacks by up to 50%
- Reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes by almost 60%
- Combat depression and the ongoing effects of medication
- Improve recovery rates and downtime after surgery
- Reduce the pain and movement of those with osteoarthritis
- Manage your chronic pain
